Meet Rubia

Lindsay “Rubia” Garcia isn’t a career politician. She’s a daughter of Louisiana who grew up knowing what it means to stretch a dollar, wait for a doctor, and wonder whether the road home would be fixed before it damaged your car. She knows the teachers who changed her life, the waitress working doubles because one shift doesn’t cover rent, and the farmer whose family has worked the same land for four generations but still can’t get reliable internet.

Early Life & Education

Lindsay "Rubia" Garcia grew up and graduated from Edna Karr High School in New Orleans in 2004, where she served as Student Council President and earned a TOPS scholarship. She went on to attend the University of Holy Cross, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History in 2009 and later completing her Secondary Education certification in Social Studies in 2011.

Federal Service

Before entering the classroom, Rubia spent nearly a decade -- from 2003 to 2010-- working with the United States Department of Defense in the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation program. As a Recreational Specialist and Supervisor, she oversaw the Single Sailor/Single Marine Programs where she served enlisted service members, managed safety operations, coordinated events, and trained personnel. That experience with military service members sharpened her leadership and deepened her commitment to public service.

Nearly A Decade in Louisiana Classrooms

From 2010 to 2020, Rubia taught secondary social studies across New Orleans -- first at Algiers Charter Schools Association, then at the New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy. She developed curriculum aligned with state standards, built structured learning environments, and mentored students through some of the most formative years of their lives. She didn't just teach history -- She helped young people understand how to think critically about the world around them.

Standing Up When It Mattered

In 2019, the collapse of the Hard Rock Hotel in New Orleans drew Garcia into community advocacy. She helped organize a boycott effort, coordinated public forums, distributed information, and worked directly with affected families to demand accountability. It was a defining moment -- a reminder that real change happens when people are willing to stand together and hold institutions responsible. She went on the continue her advocacy work driving over 30,000 miles across the country to protest the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin.

Law School & Legal Advocacy

Rubia enrolled at Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge -- not to pivot away from her community work, but to sharpen the tools she uses to do it. She concentrated in public interest advocacy and civil rights, and she excelled. Across four years, she earned top academic honors in multiple subjects, secured a nationally recognized fellowship, and gained real courtroom experience on cases that mattered. She earned her Juris Doctor in May 2025.

While in law school, she interned with VOTE (Voice of the Experienced) in 2024, reviewing proposed legislation for compliance with both U.S. and Louisiana Constitutions and working to restore civil and human rights for currently and formerly incarcerated individuals.

Lindsay "Rubia" Garcia is running for Congress because she believes the people of Louisiana’s 6th District deserve representation grounded in real experience. She has worked in public schools, served in federal programs, stood with families during times of crisis, and studied the law to better understand how policy affects everyday life.
